How badly divided are we as a nation? Why can’t a simple post on social media just be something simple? Why does every single thing have to eventually devolve into political mud-slinging. Yesterday, I asked a very simple NON-POLITICAL question because I wanted some feedback as I am writing my new book. I asked simply what people thought would be the most frightening aspect of an actual zombie apocalypse. Let me be clear…I DO NOT CARE what side of the aisle you lean towards. But keep your politics to yourself or let it be the driving force of YOUR page/posts.
I stay out of these things on social media. Here is the basic reason, the moment I declare for either side, I alienate the other. Also, my views or opinions should not mean dick to anybody but me. That said, I am blessed to have friends who are on both sides. We can talk about social issues over coffee and nobody belittles the other, and we do not try to sway each other to our POV.
Whether I agree with you or not, keep your politics on your page. I will respect your differences and the right to have a view different from my own, but unless I ask a question with an actual political theme…I just don’t want it. Also, my post yesterday specifically opened with the words “SERIOUS QUESTION”. I was asking because I like to incorporate realism into a very fictional theme. My characters are regular people. No military heroes, no MacGyver-types. So I honestly wanted to know what scared my readers about the possibility of a zombie event.
You are free to think and feel however you want. Just don’t bring it here. This world is already a mess. We have so much hate and vitriol swirling around us. Much of it exists on social media where people can type whatever they want with no repercussion. People no spew things at total strangers with no idea who they may be talking to. Trust me, I have a few real world friends that you would not want to run off at the mouth to…seriously.
It is no secret that I’m not a fan of the social media scene. I think it had a good heart when it started, but weak-minded and cowardly individuals have turned it into a platform for saying some of the stupidest things imaginable. And people have that right. But keep that stuff on your threads, and I truly do not care if this makes you “unfriend” me (and NO, friend is NOT a verb, that is part of the problem). If I ask what I preface as a serious question and you bring that garbage here, I will utilize that verb and save you the trouble. Not only does it offend me that you have to bring your stupidity to something as simple and NON-POLITICAL as zombies, but you have also offended those of my friends and followers who have always been able to consider this a safe-haven from that sort of thing.
