In the past few years, the word “hero” has been abused and attached to everything from Jenner to a girl who gets a haircut in support of a family member with cancer. Do you see the disparity in lumping these together…or is it just me?
Today, I just want to take a moment to honor what I believe to be real heroes. The men and women who went into a pair of towering infernos in an attempt to rescue citizens that they had never met.
In 16 years, a relatively short time, we have squandered any global goodwill we once had…and NO, this is not a political rant. Just an observation that we had a chance to foster unity and instead turned it into something ugly. Overreaction and extremism is a plague that has consumed society with the advent of social media.
Unlike students in Egypt that used it to expose a corrupt government…the collective has turned it into a tool for spreading rumors as truth and polarizing us from the comfort of our homes where we are safe from hearing any belief that contradicts our own.
Today, all I wish for is that we set ALL of this aside. No rumor mongering…no trolling…
Today, share something nice about those who serve us. Not every policeman is out to oppress and abuse. And the men and women of our fire departments will, at some point today, storm into a burning building to save a stranger. And the Armed Services continue to protect us and help those in need.
Do you have a friend or relative in law enforcement, fire fighting or the military? Thank them today and REMEMBER.
