Okay, as you may know, we added a beautiful female Newfoundland puppy to our home recently. She just started her two stage AKC class where she will hopefully be earning her very first degree! I am excited about this new part of our life, and she has quickly found a special spot in our hearts. However, owning a Newfie brings about an entirely new set of “issues” to deal with. For one, they need to be kept cool. Their fur is very thick and they can get overheated in a hurry if you are not careful. Lucky for me, I already prefer a cool home. I sleep with the bedroom window open 365 days a year. Denise has grown accustomed over time, but recently, I took a peek at the thermostat and discovered that my house was a cool 59 degrees!
Now don’t get me wrong, Freyja loves it. Me, I am okay with it, but Denise has had to bring out the blankey again when we settle down at night to watch a movie or whatever. Yeah…it’s cold in here.
With big dogs, come big appetites. That also means big messes in the yard. Crickey! I use the pooper scooper regularly, but it still looks like a T-Rex is using our front yard as a litter box! Freyja does more in a day than the two Border Collies combined in a week it seems.
For a person who likes things neat and tidy, she has been a lesson in getting over it. To start, she is a water-loving dog, and if we open the back door, she has learned where the ponds are and makes a bee-line for them right away. You can’t really tell a dog that will eventually be learning things like water rescue that she can’t go swimming. Thus, I have come to grips that I will never have a dry floor again. Also, she has discovered the simple joy of going out on the upper deck when it rains. She loves just sitting there letting the swimming pool in the sky shower her with watery goodness.
Stay tuned. This is now the place to come for all things me, Freyja, Aoife & Tyrion, and even the African Greys.
